Posting Projects

These are the aprons I designed and sewed for the girls the first week we arrived in Iowa. Grace asked me to add a ruffle to her apron because it wasn't "long enough." Both aprons are reversible and the girls enjoy wearing them. Aunt Susan is the queen of repurposing! So with a little inspiration from her and some great ideas from the library we came home and created some of our recycled art! We used cardboard from cereal boxes to cut the template we wanted to decorate. Using food coloring and Elmer's glue we painted aluminum foil, let it dry for a day or two (the more food coloring you use the more vibrant the color because the glue dries clear and the color is muted.) Then we cut the foil into squares and decorated the templates. Next step is to decorate them with ribbons, trim, and other random things we find....but all in good time. When we emptied the last cereal box, Grace looked at me and said, "I know, we can cut that into a cardboard dinosaur!" Dinosaurs, people, dogs, turtles, and spiders are on the list for recycled cardboard collages. We will be some crafty girls this winter...I'm super excited and can hardly wait to get started.

Funny Faces

Because Grandpa Dave keeps "Funny Faces" on his desk!
*** DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ANNE'S CHIN!!! She fell at the library while I was checking out our books. Her cut required our first visit to the emergency room. The Dr. decided against stitches and opted to glue it closed. It's a bit nasty looking, butshe reacts to adhesives and can no longer wear bandages to keep her wound covered. Anne's been a good sport about it all and is excited to start jumping again in 6 more days!

Green Dresses

We love our dresses! Thanks, Grandma Peggy for making them!
(We also like to wear Laura Ingall Braids!)

Favorite Pictures for the Week

Nauvoo Again

Our first stop in Nauvoo was the Family Living Center. Here we were going to learn about daily life and the things you needed to do to prepare for the next season. There was weaving, spinning, bread baking, candle making, rope making, barrel making, pottery, and much more to see and do. Grace and Anne quickly found the cradle filled with pioneer babies.
Grace Headed for the sheep shearing with her little baby. Anne, baby and Edwin learn about bread baking.
It took the entire family to make a rope.
We took a little walk, saw some critters crawling on the ground, enjoyed a delicious ginger bread cookie from the bakery, looked at the outhouse for a while and peered down the well. Then found this treasured park.
Pioneer women and the sheep.
Grace was working hard all day while the rest of us sat and ate lunch.
Anne came running to help Grace.
Grace and Anne greeted Gary, the ox, before we put him to work on our wagon ride. Gabe is the other ox, but he's not as people friendly.
Zoe and Molly joined us on this ride.
Giddy Up, Edwin! Pull that wagon!
Nauvoo can't be experienced without a stop at the Blacksmith's shop.
This will probably be the last visit for a while, but we are eagerly planning our trips for the spring! We love Nauvoo!

Baby Shower in a Box

My family sent us a "baby shower in a box!" It arrived yesterday afternoon and we promptly opened all the gifts and the girls got all dressed up in their new jewelry and fancy hair bows. Playing games this morning was a great activity while we waited for oatmeal to cook.
The little ladies just needed a little peek to help them know where to pin the pacifier on the baby!
We loved all the gifts, toys, and treats. Thanks for sending us your love in a box!
